Rancho Murieta Open Spaces

SOLOS was organized in April 2014 by committed Rancho Murieta residents to protect and preserve beautiful neighboring open spaces, which include lakes (two of which are reservoirs and the water supply for Rancho Murieta), an extensive trail system, and abundant natural resources accessible  to residents for recreation.

The formation of SOLOS was initiated upon concern regarding proposed development of an additional 1300+ homes in Rancho Murieta and a concern resulting from a potential water supply shortage. Many of these developments were proposed within areas surrounding the three most pristine reservoirs in Rancho Murieta, Lakes Calero, Chesbro, and Clementia, where the water supply can be limited and variable.

RM LAKES: There are multiple lakes in and around Rancho Murieta.  The larger three lakes are Clementia, Chesbro and Calero.  Many trails and roads provide walking and golf cart access to them.  Lakes Calero and Chesbro are reservoirs and part of the Rancho Murieta water supply system, storing water pumped from the Consumnes River. Lake Clementia is permitted as a recreation lake only.

RM TRAILS: Rancho Murieta trails are maintained by the Murieta Trail Stewardship (MTS).  MTS is a community-driven initiative in Rancho Murieta.  The Murieta Trail Stewardship was established in 2010 as a voluntary service organization by local residents.  These trails are not part of the Rancho Murieta Association (RMA), so the MTS takes on the responsibility of maintaining them.  Volunteers from the MTS work diligently to keep these trails accessible and enjoyable for hikers, trail runners, and cyclists alike.

  • The MTS has created over 14 miles of natural surface, multiuse singletrack trails.

  • These trails cater to a diverse community, including mountain bikers, road cyclists, and trail runners and hikers.

  • The MTS mission is to maintain and enhance the 17 miles of natural trails within Rancho Murieta.
